Twenty five minutes north of the Bad Taste B&B (aka "the barnhouse") is Mount Ashland, a hiker's paradise in the summer, a skier's paradise in the winter (lodge, lifts, downhill, cross country, and snowboarding.) Twenty five minutes to the south is the Klamath River, offering rafting, fishing, and boating.

Twenty five minutes to the east is Pilot Rock, a fairly easy climb which affords a 360 degree view of Northern California and Southern Oregon, including Mt. Shasta, Mt. Ashland, and Mt. McLaughlin.

The city of Ashland is twenty five minutes northeast, and hosts the longest-running Shakespeare Festival in the United States. Matinee and evening performances take place in four theaters, six days a week, from February through October. There are also many local theater productions happening year-round. Lithia Park, in the heart of Ashland, is a miniature of Golden Gate Park, and was created by its same designer, John McLaren. Main Street and Lithia Plaza offer a variety of shopping and dining options, as well as an arthouse movie theater and a wonderful bookstore.

Tibetan Buddhist statue

A pleasant walk from the barnhouse leads to an authentic Tibetan Buddhist Temple, complete with a Buddha Garden in which sits a 35 foot Buddha, the White Tara, the Green Tara, and a beautiful Prayer Wheel room. Visitors are always welcome in the garden, and the Temple can be visited by appointment.
